Pelicans in one of our golf course community lakes
January is gone. Finally. For the most part (in my world, anyway) it was a very long month with a lot of unusually cold weather. As a result, we didn't ride our bikes nearly as much and we did a lot of quiet reading of our library books on the lanai with the space heater nearby.
We turned the calendar page on the pantry door to February and then had to face this guy.....

I think nearly everybody in the continental USA groaned in unison upon hearing his prediction. But then this gal added her two-cents' worth, and maybe some of us began to feel a little better.

But with all of that said, our recent days became warmer. It was time for my feet to consider wearing sandals again (i.e. time for a pedicure).
choosing a nail polish
I chose 075 Tiramisu Slice, which is a definite change from the many shades of pink I usually select. I pay extra for gel nail polish because it's just so pretty, and more durable. At my age there is no need to spend much $$ for myself. When we are careful as to where we "throw our money," we can afford to spend a little more on the niceties. 😉

Opening ceremony of the Olympics
Of course the next big thing in the first week of February was the start of the Olympics. I need to backtrack for a moment here. In my last post I gave a rather low rating when asked for my attention to the Olympics. I have since realized my real opinion is that I enjoy the winter games more than the summer version. Part of the reasoning for that is the participants wear more clothing for winter sports (yeah, I'm kind of a prude when it comes to modesty, but I don't apologize for that).

I had been to that general area before, although Gary had not. I kinda like it, so after the car show, I wanted to share the town with him.
When we reached the antique district, Gary was not impressed. It was too rustic for him. Not everybody defines "charm" in the same way..... 🙄 😉 Fortunately for me, one of Gary's mantras is, "If Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy!"

one of two outdoor dining venues
I was successful in getting him to park the car so we could find some ice cream before heading for home. (One of my mantras is, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach!")
The ice cream (we both got Coffee flavor) was over-priced (but what isn't these days??). We were able to enjoy it in 70-degree sunshine in the dappled shade of huge, moss-laden oak trees. So for me, all that was a definite win and Gary cooperated nicely.

the Super Bowl
On Sunday morning we did our usual church routine (the sermon was on bitterness and forgiveness). Gary served his usual offering of hot chocolate with a gigantic marshmallow floating on top. That afternoon Gary's son, who lives in Minneso-cold, called to catch us up on family doin's up there. Then of course, we watched the Super Bowl. We cheered for the Sea Hawks since we both hail from western states-- and as we all now know, that turned out to be a winning choice!

We have known all along that Bad Bunny would NOT be our half time entertainment.

Until next time, grace and peace.

Your getaway sounds fun. I agree, take the country roads instead of the highways.
We aren't football people and didn't watch the Super Bowl or any halftime shows, instead watching British Crime shows. :)
I read your post at the Christian Lounge and greatly appreciated it. We're dealing with some stuff here, so it was timely. That stuff is related to FB posts, so I also felt your rainbows and unicorns post. Sometimes I'd just rather not know...
Oh, you got Gary to go to Micanopy? How wonderful!! I know that's not really a "man's thing', but it is such a nice step back in time and very relaxing. My thoughts on everything pretty much coincide with yours, although we did actually make it through the TPUSA half time show, but like you, it wasn't really our kind of music, but it was certainly better than the alternative , so we stuck it out to the end. The last song was pretty good. That's about all I can say, as I really couldn't understand much of what the others were singing. It's too bad. Like our friend Terri said in her post, bring on the marching bands! LOL. I would love to see that happen again! Your toenails look great. I am dealing with an unfortunate toenail fungus issue, so no polish or sandals for me until this clears up (if it ever will). It's not a pleasant subject, but apparently it's not all that uncommon. There just isn't any one real cure...lots of opinions, but so far nothing really works. Time will tell.
Well, I hope you have a pleasant and peaceful week.
I remember the nice time we blogging friends had when we visited Micanopy!! I enjoyed that sweet little town and the lunch we had there! Barb, I was disappointed in the alternate halftime show, but agree it was mainly due to a generation gap thing. I didn't know the singers or the music. I did not watch the game. Hello to your Gary and a hug for you!! Have a blessed week, dear friend!
That last meme says it all, Barbara, and your reminder to visit Victor is just more proof that great minds think alike as I mentioned the same in my blog that will publish on Tuesday. Danny and I loved the TPUSA half time show, and Kid Rock's rendition of "Until You Can't" with added Christian lyrics brought me to tears. I'm sure it's available on YouTube. Blessings!
hehehe! The Phil memes did make me chuckle. It was a cold January, it wasn't as cold here in the UK and it has been more wet than snowy. Ugh! It will be a few months until I wear sandals.
Yes! I did the same, I said I wasn't that excited about the Winter Olympics but I have watched more than I had planned and I am enjoying it! I loved the Opening Ceremony, it was so creative!
I am a bit younger than you and I had no interest in Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl. He just isn't my thing!
It sounds like your first week in February was a good one. Glad it is warming up, your toes got colored and you were able to go adventuring. I love the graphic you picked of Charlie Brown, Barbara. Happy Tuesday!
Hooray for a little getaway with bribes. :) That looks like a destination I'd really enjoy even without the ice cream. We've been watching some of the Olympics, too. Yes, I won't engage in political arguments online. We do have our 'safe' places to discuss our opinions. Glad your corner warmed up again to customary standards! Trusting in the LORD!
I am also a senior citizen and it is unfortunate that so many viewers were influenced about the half time show. The main message was “the only thing that overcomes hate is love”. There was so much symbolism about unity, diversity, and following dreams….truly the foundation of our country.
You really have been busy of late. I like the Charlie Brown reminder.
God bless always.
This sounds like a nice get-away. Sometimes the little shops can disappoint, and then there are times when I'm like wow...who knew this place had so much stuff? I have the hardest time picking out nail colors. I would have gone with something similar to what you chose, especially until say April. Feels good to pamper ourselves from time to time. We watched the alternative half time show as well. I don't mean this to sound ugly, but I don't understand why an American Super Bowl (an English speaking Country) show would be sung in Spanish.. Guess this is all I had better say. Sending hugs and blessings your way.
Dear Barbara, it sounds like a wonderful time! I love all your photos and illustrations.
I laughed hard when I saw the groundhog and the witness protection program. I feel sorry for the poor groundhog, people blame him if he is "wrong", but he isn't a meteorologist! LOL!
