This week Joyce's Hodgepodge questions focus on winter. If you want to link up with her blog to answer these questions, click here.
1. What kind of winter person are you-snow lover, fireplace snuggler, winter adventurer, or indoor hibernator? Elaborate.
My preference over the years has changed from the thrill of being in snow to just observing it from inside a warm house. After years of living in snowy climates (Upstate New York, New Jersey, Colorado, South Dakota, Northern Virginia), when asked if I miss snow, my reply is I don't miss shoveling it.

2. The Pantone color of the year is cloud dancer, described as a gentle, billowy off white shade. The color symbolizes 'peace, clarity, quiet reflection, renewal, and a soft reset'. Of the terms just listed which do you need most in your life this winter?
I choose "clarity." Some baffling issues have been on my mind in recent years that could benefit from some clarity.
I'm seeing that there are things in life we just need to accept, make our peace with as much as possible, and move on.
God has everything in his control. I'm learning to trust His loving character in my life.

3. Every cloud has a silver lining, on cloud nine, head in the clouds, storm clouds gathering, or cloud of suspicion...which 'cloud' idiom do you most relate to currently? Explain.
Thinking of current events in our world, "storm clouds gathering" is very accurate. We need to be praying for our leaders and asking God to bring calm to our streets.
4. Coconut, cauliflower, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, onions, ranch dressing...of the white foods listed, which would be the hardest for you to give up? Do you like all or any of the foods on the list?
Without a doubt, mayonnaise would be the hardest of the listed foods for me to give up. I grew up with Miracle Whip, which I loved at the time, but my desire for that has long since disappeared. Now it's Hellmann's Real Mayo for me!
5. Thomas Wentworth Higginson is credited with this quote-
"How many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year."
Agree or disagree? Tell us why.
Yes, I agree. Winter teaches us to slow down, review where we are, and to consider if adjustments should be made.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Here are the words to an old hymn that fit well with today's theme of winter whites:
Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole;
I want Thee forever to live in my soul,
Break down every idol, cast out every foe;
Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
Whiter than snow, yes whiter than snow,
Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

Perfect song for today's hodgepodge.
I think the snow is pretty but I sure hate driving in it and I'm also not a fan of being cold.
I agree on the mayo, I'd have a hard time giving that up. I don't like coconut so that wouldn't be a problem.
I always like seeing Gary's Thunderbird. That was a pretty color!
I don't miss shoveling it, and I also don't miss snow at all. After 36 years in Florida, I would have trouble navigating snow covered anything now!! I enjoyed your answers, Barb! Joyce gave us another fun Hodgepodge! Hugs!
I can remember how much I longed to have snow in winter as a child, but that sure was cured when we had a blizzard in Atlanta in '93 and we didn't have electricity for an entire week. Not fun! Where we live now we can't even get up our steep driveway if we have any snow or ice. Still, I will always love how snow transforms our world into a magical wonderland. Blessings, Barbara!
Barbara, Having never lived in the snow, I do find it beautiful. My folks owned a duplex in Tahoe and I could experience the snow just a little. One thing I found out - Its REALLY COLD! We did have two snow events here and it closed our town for a week and caused a lot of damage. It was beautiful to see our area blanketed with that beautiful snow within the comfort of my home. My husband couldn't wait, to get outside and shovel the driveway and walkway! Every winter, we all hope for snow. It happened before, it could happen again! ❄
Enjoyed your post.
I much prefer watching snow fall from the warmth of my house. The more I hear about Florida the more it appeals to me with the warmer temperatures.
What fantastic cars! My dad would love them, he has a couple vintage cars and loves anything like that!
Ahh! Hellmann's is our go to mayo too.
Such a fun white post, Barbara! I love snow--from the inside of my comfy home :) I do think I would miss seeing it in the winter. We had about an inch last night and everything looks so fresh and pure outside. I, too, grew up with Miracle Whip, switched to Hellmann's when I married, but recently went back to Miracle Whip. It certainly brings back memories of those bologna and cheese sandwiches on white bread that mom used to serve. Not that I eat those now--ha ha! Have a joyful day!
Since I don't like mayo, I wouldn't have a hard time giving it up and I could also pass on the cottage cheese. Both are icky to me. I love the color of that white Thunderbird you shared, Barbara. It reminds me of DMC 3865.
We have a lot of "winter white" yesterday in the form of 6-8 inches of snow! Ugh! I am so over winter and pretty much envy anyone living in warmer climates about now! I too would not want to give up my Hellman's Real Mayo. That T-Bird is gorgeous!
What a beautiful way to end the hodgepodge! We prefer Best Foods/Hellman's mayonnaise. It's funny that it has different names depending on which side of the country you live in. I do love white caps!
Dear Barbara, I enjoyed reading your responses. Here in Montreal today we got a blizzard. Lots of snow. I had an appointment with my rheumatologist so I was out in it this morning. I only had to take one bus and it went well.
Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
I live in Duke's country and people here are very loyal to the brand. Which I love. But Hellman's is a close second. Yes, storm clouds are brewing and in some cases have already burst. I feel burdened to pray for our nation and I keep the news to a minimum. I find it hard to wrap my mind around the notion that in 2026 we're asking the highest court in the land if men can get pregnant???! I love all the beautiful old cars. We went to a number of car shows in NJ which was fun. We have an old MG. Have a nice weekend!
Good morning, Barbara and Gary. We use Dukes, hubby will never go back to Hellman's or any other brand, lol. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.
Thank you for the Christian random thought. I like a mayo and cheese sandwich. Or mayo and French fries.
God bless.
