The Wednesday Hodgepodge on a Tuesday Afternoon

Got a little time on my hands this afternoon, so I'm answering Joyce's Hodgepodge questions. Here's the link to the questions if you want to join in on your blog: http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com

 1. Thursday is National Pi Day...are you good at math? What was the last thing you had to calculate? Did you use your head or technology? Last slice of pie you ate?

.The last slice of pie I had was Banana Cream. Any flavor of cream pie is Gary’s favorite. Me, I like any pie placed in front of me, with cherry being my favorite.

As for calculating: most of the time, I use the calculator on my phone when dealing with my checkbook. Arithmetic was not my strong point in school.

2. What makes a house a home?

.Living with someone I love who loves me and treats me with kindness, respect, and lots of affection. Comfy furniture and a full refrigerator help, too!

3. Your current favorite green thing?

.I love being able to look out the windows of this house to see a lot of palm trees, grass, pine trees, bushes that flower.

4. How do you define achievement? .I define achievement as completing a job to the best of my abilities (even if not perfect) and in a timely manner, preferably in ways that don’t offend the innocent or make life harder for others. How does your personal definition look similar to, or different than, society's definition? .There’s a lot of anger and downright rudeness in today’s world, so consideration of others is lacking much of the time.  What's something you think is worth achieving in life? .People need to consider if it's better to be right or kind. In my opinion, the legalists press to be right while those who are more loving choose to be kind. Kindness wins people over while insistence on being right creates chasms.

5. What song is a good soundtrack for your life right now?

.A chorus from my youth choir days, “My Lord Knows the Way Through the Wilderness.” Here’s a quick Youtube version of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9w-n6D_im0

I sing this to myself often and couple that with the prayer, “Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me.”!!!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

.This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Until next time, grace and peace.

We love Pickles in this house and often say that the writer is eavesdropping on us. :)
In our house Bob would agree with you on cherry pie, and I'd be with Gary on the cream pie.
Good verses and songs you shared today.
And kindness goes a long way!

Not a fan of cream pies (sorry Gary!), but I'm with you on the cherry, Barbara! Love the cartoon at the end of your post. In my book, kindness overrules being right any day. Thinking of you.

I often wake up and hum a tune from my childhood that helps me focus and face the day. My hubs loves a cream pie too, coconut and banana both. I like those too but prefer a fruit pie. Have a nice day! So glad you played along in the HP today!

Showing kindness to one another is more important than ever in this fractured world, Barbara. May we all show more of that to others . . . and share the ice cream!
Blessings!

Oh, I forgot about Pi Day being tomorrow! Maybe I should whip up a little something as a surprise for my husband. I love cherry pie, too, Barbara, and my husband would be right there with Gary on the Banana Cream choice. And kindness in this world is more important than ever these days--it really does matter. What a fun read today--and the little cartoon is spot on! Enjoy your day ♥

Banana cream [drool] ... sorry, I faded there for a moment. [lol]
Pickles is on of my favorite in the "funny papers", as my Old Man woulda said.
I like your soundtrack for life. Good choice.
Such a fun post. I enjoyed your answers.
Blessings. 💙

Haha about the eating of the ice cream. That's a good song to sing to yourself. 'Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me' Hope you have a lovely weekend! Will you be enjoying corned beef and cabbage? :)

I am good at maths. When I bought a pizza the assistant asked if I wanted it cut in 6 or 8 slices. I said 6. I was not so hungry to eat 8 slices.

I so like the quote from Psalm 118:24 Thank you.

God bless you.

I thought for sure I left a comment here yesterday but it looks like I was mistaken. :) Getting old is not for the faint of heart. Singing with you, Spirit of the Living God fall afresh on me. Chuckling at the comic strip at the end.

I love those songs you sing to yourself! I remember both of them from my youth days as well as more recently. So thankful to know that our Lord does know the way through the wilderness, and all we have to do is follow! Sometimes that's not as easy as it sounds, but we are never alone...He always comes along side us and helps us get through to wherever we are going. And yes, kindness does go a long way. It's good if we can be "right" and "kind" at the same time without trying to enforce our "rightness" on others and forget to be "kind" to them so that they may want to also be "right" in the true sense of the word. There's a world of difference between being "right" and being "self-righteous". Jesus was always "right", but he detested self-righteous Pharisees who couldn't be kind to others, and He showed kindness to those who needed to find their way through the wilderness. Wow, your songs have made me rather loquacious this morning! LOL. I do hope you have a lovely day and weekend. Hope all is well in your part of the world.

One of the unexpected things about growing older is, I find that anyone much younger than me isn't all that interested in my opinion - even if experience has given me more right answers to life's questions than I had, say twenty years ago. The thing that all people are interested in is genuine kindness and respect.
