This one did not seem inclined to converse with me. They are always on grocery trips when we see them, so chatting with humans is not a priority with them.
back of our house as seen from the multi-purpose path |
It's wintertime in Florida right now. Our bike rides have not been a daily thing due in part to the cold but more so because riding into the wind is very tiring. However, as a follow-up to comments made in my last post regarding the padded bike pants, WOW! What a difference that makes. I have two pair, one padded with foam and one with gel. Both fillings make a comforting difference in the comfort of the bike ride, but the gel is my favorite of the two.
my New Year's Day menu 2018 |
New Year's Day we did not have the traditional black-eyed peas with cornbread, ham, and cooked greens (and Waldorf Salad, pictured above), which was my norm for many years. While it's a wonderful menu, I am now 70-something and I can say with certainty that what I eat on January 1st of any year has absolutely nothing to do with my good fortune (or lack thereof) for the rest of the year.
sealing the pavers |
Another necessary but not especially pleasant event this week was getting the paver bricks in our front patio sealed. The result is beautiful and does not need to be repeated for two years, but the strong smell of the chemicals are headache-inducing.

Another question I am inviting my readers to answer is this: why do some of us blog? The 15th anniversary of my first blog is coming up in a few weeks yet I still ask myself that question. Why do some of us feel the need to share our thoughts with who-knows-who is reading?
Why would anybody care to read my stuff, and especially if they don't know me personally? Am I trying to educate, evangelize, or enamor?
What has recently occurred to me is that being heard is a human need and in this culture of so many voices talking all at once, it's easy to feel nobody is listening. To feel heard, understood and validated is a basic human need.
And some of us just like to write.
Well, I'd be interested to know what my readers have to say about Sudoku and/or blogging, just to get a general feel for your opinions. Thanks, as always for stopping by.
Until next time, grace and peace.
Let the words of my mouth,
and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight,
O LORD,
my strength and my redeemer.

I enjoy writing and researching. It’s fun, regardless if anyone reads or not. It’s almost a compulsion and definitely therapy!
I enjoy sudoku and mahjong.
Egret's are so pretty.
My husband Steve plays Sudoku every day. I prefer on-line jigsaw puzzles and Mahjong.
Blessings from SE Georgia.
I think it's great that Gary cooks and I would eat that bacon sandwich too.
I love Sudoku!
I blog for several reasons. It's kind of a diary and is handy to look back at. I take a lot more photos because I blog and am so glad now to have the pictures I took of my Dad in the last 10 year.
I also love the people I've met from all over that I never would have met before. I've met several in person now, and Bob and I even stayed with one when we went to South Carolina this summer.
I did Soduko several years ago for quite some time but laid it aside. Perhaps I need to pick it back up. As to blogging.........I started to journal for my Grans but definitely have not stayed faithful and have "waxed and waned" the past 3-4 years. But, I still enjoy what little I do and really enjoy reading others. Happy weekend!
I did try Sudoku once or twice, but it didn't quite catch on with me. I do better with word games, like Wordle and Connections, which I do online each day and there are several of my facebook friends who also do it and we have fun sharing our results with one another. These games can both be found on your cellphone and are from the New York Times (NYT). There may be other varieties, but I only do the official NYT version, and you can only do it once a day. Regarding blogging, I started blogging when I realized that it would be better for me than trying to write a book that most likely no one would want to buy to read. So I write my book here for free and people read it every day! I enjoy the interaction with the friends I've made over the years, and some whom I've even had the pleasure of meeting in person...YOU, Terri, Linda! Sometimes I think I am closer to and have more in common with my blogging friends than I do with the people I have known for years in person (or even family). It's been a wonderful hobby for me especially since retiring, and the nice thing is it goes with us wherever we go if we move....our friends go with us! Nice! I do believe that sharing my faith is a very big reason why I blog...I make no apologies for that as I am very thankful to be a child of God and a daughter of the King of kings, saved by the grace and blood of Jesus Christ. This is the most important part of my life that I feel is worth sharing with others. But it's nice to share the other little things too...like your Great White Egret and my Great Blue Heron today...things that make life interesting along the way. Thank you for being one of my dear friends here. You are a joy and blessing to know!
I haven't tried Sudoku in a long time but did work the puzzles now and then when they first became popular. My blog is more of a journal for me. I can look back to verify things or to just go back in time a bit. I have also met some wonderful people through blogging!! Love ya!
While I don't do Sudoku, I love doing word search puzzles along with jigsaw puzzles. I read blogs because 1. it is like sitting and visiting over coffee/tea/whatever beverage and 2. I usually learn something from a blog post. Have a relaxing weekend, Barb.
Excellent question why the need to blog, to which I have no answer for, smiles. Biker padded shorts are must and Dave's brother use to wear them, however they (Dave and his brother and his late brother) no longer ride their bikes due to various forms of hip issues. ANYWAYS, I digress, I hope you have a beautiful day my friend.
I look forward to your blogs. I love reading your weekly thoughts on life and the new adventures you have undertaken. You have always stayed true to your faith while facing the bumps of life. I have been doing Sudoku puzzles for years and I enjoy them.
I have never tried Sudoko, Barbara, but I like to order Jumble puzzle books to stimulate my mind. We do need to do all we can to stave off dementia, don't we? Why do I blog? I think it has a lot to do with, as you said, being heard. I started out my first full year of blogging when I heard God say, "Write a daily devotional." You talking to me??? Well, I took up that challenge successfully, and though I've definitely cut back on any daily post, the habit has continued. There's my back story!
Blessings!
I have not picked up on Sudoku, yet. Glad those gel pants make bicycling a happier experience. Blogging is a creative outlet for me. It's a journal of sorts. It also helps me to remember things that have gone on. In my earlier days I would scrapbook the old fashioned way on paper that deteriorates. I took lots of photos and kept photo albums. I don't do photo albums anymore like I used to but keep those albums on my blog. Glad the pavers are done and the stink is gone, too. Happy first weekend of 2024!
For the first time in forever, I didn't eat the traditional New's Year fare. I am not in the least bit superstitious but more a traditionalist. We were on the road and I just went with it this year. I am pretty sure I will be ok:)
Oh ---- the blogging question. I need to read others' comments. I have no idea what came over me in March of 2014 to decide to open a blog. I had read mostly teacher blogs and loved them. It was kind of odd but mostly only K-2 teachers wrote them. The rest of us were too busy surviving teaching the standardized tests and trying to stick in the fun too to write a blog, but I was fascinated with them. I jumped in with really not a clue to what I would do with it. I did over time discover stitcher blogs and they fascinated me the most. I have always loved decorating but it seemed very quickly those all went money making which I don't blame them but that was not my goal. I had already had a job other than home keeping for 31 years. Anyway, here I am in 2024 wondering why in the world would I share so much and who in the world would read my blog. I have wanted to stop but Hubby and Daughter don't seem to agree, so here I am going another year. Why do I read them? Well, I love biographies and seeing how people in other places do things. I have been blessed by many blogs including yours but also influenced too in positive and negative ways. The negative ---trying to buy something I see mostly. I am not nearly as susceptible to that as I was 10 years ago. I think the blog has provided conversation about topics that my in person friends could care two cents about. You can have friends that are wonderful in your life and will walk with you through stuff but don't have much in common with like hobbies.
I've never been good at Sudoko. I just put any numbers to fill the spaces.
God bless.
I love your photos and your inspirational blog. Hope you will have a Happy New Year!
