❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
This week's Hodgepodge questions focus on February themes. To link up with your blog, click here.
1. The Winter Olympics kick off on Friday, February 6th...on a scale of 1-10 how excited are you? (1= eh and 10=watching every event all day every day). What's your favorite Winter Olympic sporting event?
My interest in the Olympics is a 2 (maybe a 3). The winter version holds my attention more than the summer events. (Ice skating, especially pairs, in the winter and gymnastics in the summer) The bobsled competitions are interesting.

I am mildly interested in the opening ceremony, although the last Olympics that included the irreverent portrayal of the Last Supper was an obscenity.

The 2012 Olympics opening ceremony in London where Agent 007 met up with Queen Elizabeth -- that was clever and certainly entertaining.
Mostly we are bummed that some of our favorite TV shows will have to move over for Olympic coverage.
2. In other sporting news, the Superbowl (American football's championship game) will be played on Sunday, February 8th. So tell us...what's your superpower?
First of all, I'm sorry my Denver Broncos did not win the AFC playoff game against the Patriots.

As for my superpower: I'm a pretty good listener. With age and hurtful experiences, I've come to appreciate the value of keeping my mouth shut more so I can focus on what others are saying. People want/need/crave to be heard. People need to know they are being heard, which validates them, gives them needed respect, and in turn, encourages them.
Sadly, there is not enough listening in most conversations. Too many are so busy trying to be heard that they forget to listen.
3. Are you a romantic?
| ❤️ Us ❤️ |
Yes. (how can I not with the wonderful man to whom I'm married?!!!)
4. Blue cheese-yay or nay? How about feta? If you said yes to one or both, what's a dish you like that calls for one of these?
Feta is my preference over Blue cheese. (as former Cheers actor, Ted Danson, would say in his cell phone commercials, Blue cheese "is an acquired taste.") 🤮
I like Feta cheese in a salad of mixed greens with dried cranberries, pecans or walnuts, and a sweet-sour vinaigrette dressing.
5. What's more important-doing what you love or loving what you do?

Being more practical than a 'heart on my sleeve' type of personality, I think it's more important to love what you need to do.
If we all did nothing but what we love, the practicalities of life would be neglected and all of us would suffer. If we focus on appreciating the necessary activities and giving them our best efforts, we can eventually genuinely enjoy them and "love" the satisfaction of a job well-done.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
An instructive scripture verse that can be applied to sports, competition, and our work ethic:
Therefore, since we are surrounded
by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)
Until next time, grace and peace.
Barbara

Dear Barbara, yes, here in Canada we are in the deep freeze as well! And the middle of this week is supposed to be very cold! Although I am used to the cold weather and actually love it, the only thing that concerns me is ice, as I don't want to fall. I love the snow and the cold, I just make sure I dress warmly.
Your photos and post is such a joy to see, dear friend! Thank you so much for sharing.
Hi Barbara, haven't been to visit in a while (2025 was a hard year for me and hubby). Living in Kansas, we have gotten small snows (or none) and big snows over my lifetime (like the one that blasted us with over four feet when I was a child in the 60s). We just had 6.5" a little over a week ago, some of it is still around due to the sub-freezing temps. Brrr! In 2005, our region had an ice storm that threw down 2"+ ice. All our trees in the backyard came down and we were without power for 9 days. I learned to use a chainsaw real fast so I could help hubby. Ugh. I commiserate with you. Hope your plants survive(d)!! Tomorrow we suddenly shoot back up to the upper 40s and 50s, with some 60s at the first of next week. Woot! // My son and grandson always root for the Broncos (hubby and I don't watch sports... except the young grandkids' stuff). The other part of the family are KC Chiefs fans. My two sons woud always argue who was best, haha. // No to bleu cheese, YES to feta, but only on my veggie/fruit side dish. // AMEN to #6. // I've been reading at the Christian Lounge for quite some time now. Really enjoy it! // Happy February 1st to you, Barbara!! 💕
Yes, it's been quite a month as far as weather goes. It was negative 9 as we drove to church this morning. But - the sun came out! :)
I feel the same as you about the Olympics; I enjoy those same things and I hope they don't throw politics into it again this year.
No Blue cheese for me either.
I've enjoyed the Christian Lounge and always appreciate your posts there.
Question: Are the hearing aids totally new to you, or just a new set of them? I never knew you to have them before, so I was just wondering. How do you like them? I know it is something that I need to address someday (both of us do, ahem, ahem), but we keep putting it off as other things more pressing arise first. I will be happy when this cold snap is all snapped out...I am ready for spring to begin and hopefully some rain. (not snow! LOL). I enjoyed your post and your scripture at the end...one of my (many) favorites. Thank you!!
I was out of the Olympic loop and didn't realize they are starting so soon! I love the figure skating, as you do. Winter is much more fun than summer, in my humble opinion. I will answer the Hodgepodge on Wednesday. Stay warm up there, two hours north of me!! Faucets dripping again tonight. It worked for me last night! Have a blessed week ahead!! xo
Sports should remain just that - Sports! I'm so tired of people trying to inject personal opinions and political beliefs into a venue that is meant to bring this world together, Barbara. Praying that Lindsay Vonn will be recovered enough to compete! My favorite Olympics are the summer ones as I always am amazed by the gymnastics. Blessings!
Not a fan of Bleu Cheese but do like feta (salads, gyros). I was surprised to learn the Olympics begin before the Super Bowl this time. I like the figure skating. Stay warm!
I only realized yesterday that the Olympics are this week (or this year, for that matter). I'm not all that into sports or the competition of the Olympics, but I usually try to watch the opening and closing ceremonies. That said, I missed them last year for some reason, and didn't regret it one bit.
I have seen the news about the weather in the US and it looks awful. You know things are bad when there is snow forecast in Florida.
I am looking forward to watching some of the Winter Olympics. I will definitely be tuning into the opening ceremony though. Aww! That is a sweet photo of you and your husband!
The best weather stories I've been able to see in real time is when I watch On Patrol Live on Friday and Saturday nights. Since they follow officers in many different cities (mostly on the east coast) I was able to see how cold it was and how much snow fell. The Florida officers were freezing....:). Glad the power came on quickly and I hope your plants survive. I'm drawing a blank on some of the hodgepodge questions this week. It was good to get inspired by reading your answers. Happy February to the two of you!
I rarely watch any of the Olympics but when I do catch figure skating I am always awed at how beautiful it is! That is a nice picture of you and Gary. Stay warm!
Thank you for your last answer No. 6 with the Bible quotations. And also for promoting The Christian Lounge.
Feta is nice with watermelons. And also in salads.
Keep warm and safe in this cold weather. God bless.
I forgot about that 2012 opening with the Queen! It was excellent! And I certainly agree with you about the last opening ceremonies. A sad state our current world, unfortunately.
We warmed up into the 50's today, although it has rained a little. Still it feels so nice to step outside and not feel frigid temps. I hope your plants survive. I love the verse you shared. Have a nice week Barbara!
I'm with you on the Olympics, Barbara... I remember when I was young just being glued to the TV watching them with my family. Now, I'll check on the skating and that's about it. I did love the Queen's commercial. I'm envious of your warmer temps no matter how cold they seem to you. It hasn't gotten above freezing in over three weeks now and our foot of snow from two weeks ago hasn't melted a bit. Honestly, this is the coldest winter I can remember in all my 71 years... brrr!! Take care now and I hope things are warming up for both of us very soon :)
Dear Barbara, I am just stopping by to let you know I am thinking of you. Sending you warm hugs 🫂 🤗 and much love.
